36" x 40"
acrylic, conte and ink on canvas
When did you start to question yourself? Can you trace the self-doubt back to a moment in time? Or is it something that built up, slowly, like rain collecting in a bucket, one drop at a time until you noticed the bucket was full and heavy?
It's such a horrible feeling to question your instinct, your "inner knowing", your intuition, your "gut". It's called your gut because when you feel something is true, you get a feeling in the pit of your stomach, or you can feel your heart drop down into your gut. You know that feeling! We all do. And sometimes, despite that feeling being strong, we suppress it, deny it, and even convince ourselves that it's wrong because that gut feeling is trying to tell us something we might be scared to hear.
What would happen in your life if you started to trust yourself more? Would you start to feel out of control or more in control? I believe it's a little bit of both at the same time, but can be empowering if you start to believe in yourself and know that your instincts are so much bigger than you. They're the Universe's way of trying to tell you something. Imagine believing that you're indeed that powerful! What a treat! What freedom! What opportunity!
Next time you have a gut feeling that you're unsure of, try to run with it. Even if someone else is making you doubt it - this is about you! Tune into yourself. This painting is about recognizing what it looks like to quiet your noisy mind, blocking out all the "stuff" that is trying to distract you, and paying attention to your gut, even if it scares you. You're more powerful than you think. You might just be the only one standing in your own way.
