Being in nature is healing. Have you ever noticed how your problems seem temporarily suspended when you're out on a hike? Or at the park? Or on the water in a boat? My mind always feels more at peace when I'm surrounded by nature, to the point that my problems not only feel suspended, but eventually feel less intense because nature helps me put things into perspective.

Getting in touch with your thoughts and feelings through the subconscious can be overwhelming and unnerving - your own emotions are so powerful they can engulf you, overtake your mind and make you feel like so much is happening at once...it's a chaotic experience. But if you think about how chaotic nature is, your own emotional chaos seems to make a bit more sense, and you can even find the beauty in it.

Next time you're on a hike, think about all the things that the natural environment has going on at once: the rushing of water, the unruly angles of branches, the piles of pebbles and debris, the tangling of stems, the blowing around of leaves/sand/pollen/dust...the forest has a lot happening at once, just like our minds, and yet, in the chaos of a forest there exists such extreme beauty and even a sense of peacefulness. We accept that the chaos created by nature is intentional - we accept it for what it is, without judgement. If we could see ourselves in the same way, the chaos behind our thoughts, emotions, feelings and lives would seem less frustrating or shameful and more of a thing of beauty that is worth observing and appreciating.
